What's up? I am from Milwaukee (Fox Point - the north shore) and went to Nicolet High School.

Coming to Georgetown has given me a ton of Wisconsin pride. Although I was a fan before, I am now the biggest supporter of anything that hails from Wisco or has any sort of affiliation (think the Packers, Miller beer and That 70's Show).

Initially, I was really excited about coming to Georgetown and meeting all new people (aka not going to Madison). But when I first arrived, it was pretty daunting to be so far away from home, and know no one here in DC. But, of course, I made friends right away, and have loved Georgetown ever since. I like being from a slightly obscure place and impressing people from all over with the idea that a girl from little Wisconsin has done cool things.

My three favorite things about Georgetown are the opportunities, being in DC, and the people. You can get a good liberal arts education at universities throughout the country, but Georgetown is unique because of these three things. I decided the opportunities and what is available to you as a Georgetown student were something that I couldn't pass up. There is no other city that gives you the opportunity to have internships during the school year quite like DC. Also, being that Georgetown is the premier university in the area, Georgetown students are consistently preferred as interns and employees. Scholars, celebrities, politicians, and world leaders come to DC on a regular basis for their own needs. Being in DC affords us the opportunity to go see them speaking at a conference, or getting them to stop by campus for a lecture while they're in town.

Living in DC is amazing. There is so much to do here and being in the city is always exciting. The restaurants and shopping are incredible. You can still enjoy outdoors sports by going on biking trails, hiking in nearby mountains and kayaking on the Potomac River. But it doesn't get much cooler than to be exploring the area and come across the Lincoln Memorial or other DC landmarks.

Obviously, Wisconsin is not the most diverse place. DC is filled with people from all different areas of the world and doing everything imaginable. Georgetown has students from all over the world. It has been so interesting to hear about where people are from, where they have been, and the experiences they have had. While I've always considered myself to be pretty savvy, talking to people from all over with all different kinds of lives has really opened my eyes to everything that is out there and that is possible.

Spring of my junior year I studied abroad in Dakar, Senegal. This was a Georgetown-run French-language study abroad program. This was by far the best and coolest thing I have ever done in my life. My experiences living and studying in Dakar opened me to even more things I never knew anything about and taught me so much.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions and I really hope that you decide to join me as a fellow Cheesehead at Georgetown.
