Hello, aspiring Hoyas! My name is Drew Peterson and I am a freshman in the Walsh School of Foreign Service planning to pursue a major in international politics (to be declared soon). Although I was born in Bloomington, IN, I lived in Rutland, VT from the age of three until coming here to the Hilltop last fall. It's really difficult to describe how amazing the college experience here at Georgetown is. From the stellar academic program, to the panoply of extracurricular activities, to the insanity of Hoya basketball, this school is truly unique.

My decision to attend Georgetown was based on my desire to study international affairs, and I can say that I have not been disappointed. For an undergrad liberal arts education focusing on foreign affairs or government, there truly could not be a better place to study. In the past year, over a dozen current and former heads of state, as well as then-UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan have been to speak on campus. The location in Washington is truly invaluable for anyone interested in these fields of study.

Even if politics isn't your thing, Georgetown and its location in Washington have a great deal to offer. Elite programs here include history, English, philosophy, theology, foreign languages, and business. The student body is incredibly diverse, both in terms of origins and interests. Washington has amazing entertainment, and internship and work opportunities abound for students of all majors. Everyone here is so proud to be a Hoya, and the sense of community is really very tight- something you learn quickly when chanting "HOYA SAXA" in unison with 2,000 other Georgetown students packed onto N Street.

Really, Georgetown just has so much to offer that I certainly can't do it justice on this short page. If you are considering visiting or applying to Georgetown, or if you've been accepted, I welcome any and all questions you have. Hoya Saxa!

Hello! I'm Althea Smith, from Norwich, Vermont. I graduated from Hanover High School (in Hanover, New Hampshire) in 2007, and I am now a freshman in the Georgetown School of Foreign Service. I'm considering a major in Science, Technology, and International Affairs, but I'm undecided for the time being. Georgetown is a place where it's very easy and rewarding to get involved in a variety of activities. I row for the Women's Lightweight crew team, and I'm a member of the College Democrats, Hoyas for Choice, and the Outdoor Education club. No matter what your interests are, you will find something here you love to do, and a group of passionate people you love to do it with.

Although the city aspect of Georgetown is quite a change from rural Vermont (let's face it, there is no urban Vermont), I promise it is the easiest and best transition you could make. The tiered community of Georgetown's campus, the neighborhood of Georgetown, and finally the whole city of Washington, DC makes it easy to find a comfort zone when you need one. Georgetown's campus is always alive with guest speakers and debates, meetings and protests in Red Square, and home games. Right outside the gates, the neighborhood of Georgetown offers great restaurants and points of interest all within walking distance. When you move beyond that, there is no end to the things you can do and the experiences you can have. There are classic DC activities like seeing the monuments, visiting the museums, taking the subway, etc., but there is a niche for everyone once you find out what you like.

The student body here is diverse in backgrounds and interests, but we are brought together by an appreciation for the opportunities that Georgetown offers. We learn about government merely blocks away from the White House, take courses in any number of languages with native speakers as our teachers and our peers, and move our education off campus to too many study abroad locations to count. Georgetown will become your home faster than you know it through both a sense of the place and the friendships and connections you make, as I have found after being here only for a few months. Please feel free to email me with any questions, just to talk about Georgetown, or for directions to the Ben and Jerry's on M Street. Good luck and Hoya Saxa!
