Hi everyone!  My name is Belen Gallegos and I am proud to say I am a Hoya from Dallas!  Currently, I am a sophomore in the School of Foreign Service majoring in Latin American Studies.  However, when I first arrived here on the Hilltop, I was a student in the McDonough School of Business.  So as you can see I have experienced different but equal sides of a Georgetown education, and can answer questions on surviving both Accounting and Map of the Modern World!

After graduating from Ursuline Academy in North Dallas, I thought I had my college career planned out.  I was supposed to major in finance and international business and then go on to business school; however, life threw a curve ball at me and I soon had a hundred questions on what to do with my life.  That’s when Georgetown’s amazing deans came in to my rescue.  I spoke to both MSB and SFS deans, and they guided me to discover that I could study both international relations and business.  And now, as I said before, I am a student in the SFS studying Latin America and completing a certificate (like a minor in the SFS) in International Business Diplomacy.  So there you go, you don’t have to now exactly what to do with your life when you first come to Georgetown.  After taking some classes here and there, you’ll find your interests.  Don’t hesitate to visit your deans to talk to them because they want to see you succeed at Georgetown.

Besides academics, Georgetown is defined by its student groups and its location in the heart of our country.  There are so many opportunities to get involved here on campus!  You can do anything from taking action against the crisis in Darfur with STAND, to consulting non-profit organizations through Hilltop Consultants, to grilling on Copley lawn with GUGS (Georgetown University Grilling Society).  And you cannot forget about activities in the city: going down to the Washington Monument one spring afternoon, playing Frisbee, enjoying the annual Cherry Blossom festival, or getting lost in art and history at the Smithsonian. There are too many activities to ever get bored.

The Georgetown way of life is something you have to experience, so be sure to come to a GAAP Open House to catch a glimpse of life on the Hilltop.  In the meantime, if you have any questions please email me.  I hope you decide to join the ranks and become a part of the proud Texas community here at Georgetown, but until then HOYA SAXA!!

Hey Y'all, my name is John Dougherty and I'm a sophomore here at Georgetown. I'm in the School of Foreign Service, and am an International Politics major. I am currently studying Spanish, and speak Japanese. I'm from Austin, Tx, and love it here at Georgetown.

Coming up to Georgetown (which I've since learned is actually in the "mid-atlantic" and not the "north-east") I was a little scared at first that I'd get the cold-shoulder from the majority-northerner population, but since I've stopped diferentiating between people by their place of origins and dropped any previous stereotypes that I'd had about any lack of warmth that y'all have up here. Gtown is a great and very social place, and I've immensely enjoyed making tons of new friends since being here.

I'm very active in GAAP, and it's a lot of fun to be a member of the Board. We work hard year round to get y'all to apply (and hopefully come) to Gtown. I had a great time at my GAAP open house weekend as a prospective student, and last year, as a freshman, I really enjoyed participating in all that GAAP had to offer- from calling newly accepted students, to putting on icebreakers for those that came to the open houses. I'm also a new Blue & Gray tour guide, and so I've been working on my walking backwards skills, with a minimum of accidents so far. I'm also on the GUSA (Georgetown University Students Association) External Relations Committee, was a leader in the Georgetown Outdoor Preorientation Program, participate in Hoya2Hoya (fostering dialogue about different health-related issues on campus), and tutor a student in Japanese.

Hope you enjoy the site, come visit us and feel free to contact me with any questions that you might have about Georgetown, D.C., or anything else!
Hoya Saxa!

Hello!! Greetings from the Hilltop! My name is Sarah Squire and I am a sophomore here at Georgetown University, majoring in International Political Economy and pursuing a certificate in International Development. For the past few years students have been lobbying the administration, signing petitions, and gaining support from faculty to implement a certificate program (the SFS equivalent of a minor) in Development. Last spring several students graduated with the certificate for the first time, and the program is continuing to improve. (I love it already!) This just goes to show how ambitious students are here and how responsive the administration is to students' needs. I am continually amazed at the creativity and motivation of the Georgetown student body as a whole. It seems like everything is student run, from The Corp (the largest student-run corporation in the world) to the Credit Union!! Georgetown's first Relay for Life last spring was organized completely by dedicated students and was the #1 College Rookie Relay Event in the nation. Our Mock Trial team is one of the few in the country to compete without the guidance of a full-time coach, yet we placed 1st at Silver Nationals in Minnesota and qualified for the Gold Nationals Competition at Stetson last year. Georgetown is full of amazing stories of success like these. There are so many clubs and activities with which to get involved on and off campus, and it has been these activities in addition to my classes that have truly enriched my college experience here this past year and a half. I love Georgetown, especially all the amazing people, and I truly cannot imagine myself as happy anywhere else. I had an unusually difficult time deciding where to enroll, but now I have no idea why! Georgetown is not only the ideal school for my area of study, but the university and its location in DC have so much to offer. You can intern on the Hill while taking classes, listen to prominent speakers who come to campus (Kofi Annan, Bill Richardson, Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, Hamid Karzai, and Antonin Scalia to name a few I've seen!!), and attend exciting Georgetown basketball games at the Verizon Center in Chinatown. I could go on and on…please don't hesitate to email me with questions!! You can read all you want in the books but nothing compares with the opinions and advice of a student who lives and breathes and bleeds Hoya Blue every day! I look forward to talking with y'all and wish y'all the best of luck with the whole process!!!
