Hello! My name is Erika Oppenheimer. I am a 2004 graduate of Lincoln High School in Sioux Falls. I am a Senior in the College at Georgetown University and the South Dakota State Chair for the Georgetown Admissions Ambassadors Program (known here as GAAP). Georgetown sits upon a hill overlooking the city, providing fantastic views of the skyline at night and the Potomac River during the day. Georgetown is located in Washington, DC, but I think it provides the best of three worlds. First, it provides access to the excitement, opportunities, and culture of a big city (not to mention its close proximity to Capitol Hill—something only found in DC). Second, it provides the feeling of a smaller city, as it is located in the residential neighborhood of Georgetown, filled with town houses and trees and cobble stone roads—as well as amazing restaurants and great shopping. Third, because it has a self-contained campus, it allows students to truly feel that they are living within a college community, and not just Washington, DC. Georgetown is home to four phenomenal undergraduate schools. The classes are challenging, but the professors are extremely helpful and happy to meet with students during their office hours. Fellow students also offer an amazing support base. From intramural sports to performing arts to volunteer work to politics (of course), the campus is filled with activities. No matter your passion, there is probably something here to fuel it. The opportunities are wide spread, on campus and off, so it is easy to find a niche. I consider myself unbelievably fortunate to have the chance to spend my four undergraduate years as a Hoya. Please feel free to be in touch with me, personally, if you have any questions about Georgetown.
