Hey Future Hoyas! My name is Elizabeth Buckel and I come from Syracuse, NY where I attended high school at Christian Brothers Academy. I'm currently a senior in the School of Foreign Service, majoring in International Political Economy and obtaining a certificate in International Development.

Georgetown means the world to me. My three (going on four) years on the Hilltop have been the most remarkable years of my life, and there has not been a day when I have regretted my decision to become a Hoya. Georgetown has afforded me a wide range of opportunities. Academically, I have taken incredible classes in all different disciplines, and the SFS has supported me with top Deans and faculty mentors who are always available to help. In addition, I've been able to participate in many organizations on campus; I'm on the board of Hoya Blue and Hilltop Consultants, lead a political discussion group for the Carroll Fellows, and participate in my favorite high school activity, debate. Outside of Georgetown, I have interned for my Senator on Capital Hill, conducted marketing research for a multinational company, and researched corporate governance issues for a non-profit organization. These opportunities are not limited to the months on the Hilltop! During my summers, I worked in DC as a Congressional Legislation consultant and teacher for an educational organization, studied abroad in France, and worked in NYC as an analyst for an investment bank.

Whether it was having coffee with my Professor discussing economic development in Costa Rica, recounting the weekend's events during a three-hour brunch at Leos Dining Hall on a Sunday morning with 10 of my friends, or going on Hoya Blue roadtrips up and down the East Coast to follow the best basketball team in the nation during March Madness, I have had an unparalled collegiate experience; one that I want all of you to have. Please feel free to e-mail me any and all questions you have about Georgetown. Whether you want to know more about the core curriculum, extracurricular activities, college life in general, or why Georgetown Basketball is, and forever will be, superior to Syracuse Basketball, I am more than happy to answer and try to convince you to bleed Hoya Blue. Hoya Saxa!

HIGH SCHOOL: Garden City High School

ACTIVITIES: Baker Scholars, Class of 2008 Committee, Mathematics Dept. Teaching Assistant, Blue & Gray Tour Guide, Hoya News Writer

As the GAAP State Chair from the Empire State, I would like to say"Hello!" to my fellow New Yorkers and give you my best wishes as youmake your college decision.

I am a senior in Georgetown College (majoring in Mathematics andEconomics, with a minor in Studio Art) and I am from Garden City, LongIsland.

On campus, I am an editor of the yearbook, am on the Class of 2008Committee Board, a Teaching Assistant for the Math department, work ona WGTB radio show, and of course, am GAAP's state chair to New York!I have served as a retreat leader many times and have been involvedwith New Student Orientation in 2005 and 2006. In addition to theplenty of opportunities for continuous commitment, many ofGeorgetown's activities allow for more sporadic volunteering forevents like Georgetown Day, Homecoming, and Traditions Day. This pastsummer I interned at Morgan Stanley in the City.

Living in New York and going to Georgetown is a great combination. While the campus isn't flooded with people just like you, it is easyenough to find someone who understands where you're coming from whenyou complain about Domino's pizza and constantly refer to "The City."You'll find Hoyas from Montauk to Rye to Buffalo.

Washington D.C., literally Georgetown's backyard, is so unique in itsdiverse opportunities for Georgetown students. One of our mostoverlooked positives is that every student will be at Georgetownduring a presidential election in their four years (This means goingto Inauguration Day, campaigning, volunteering or attending theInaugural Balls, and SO much more!). Also not to be overlooked, theshopping and dining on M Street is fabulous!

If you find the idea of being "in" D.C. a bit intimidating – not toworry. Georgetown's gated campus provides a sense of comfort, security, and community to its students. In my opinion, no otheruniversity offers such a perfect location that fosters both a sense ofcommunity and a sense of adventure.

I encourage you all to come to Georgetown and take a tour, visitclasses, spend a night, etc. Good luck in your college search! Please do not hesitate to e-mail me with any questions... Hoya Saxa!

MAJOR: International Politics

MINOR: European Studies

HOMETOWN: Staten Island Technical High School

HIGH SCHOOL:

ACTIVITIES: Georgetown Cheerleading team, Orientation Advisor for New Student Orientation, GAAP, Team Captain for Georgetown's Relay for Life, and College Democrats

Hey future Hoyas! My name is Kaitlyn, and I'm from Staten Island, New York. I'm currently a sophomore in the School of Foreign Service, majoring in International Politics and earning a certificate in European Studies. At Georgetown, there is a way for everyone to be involved. For me, that includes being on the cheerleading team (cheering our men's basketball team all the way to the Final Four!), volunteering as an Orientation Advisor for New Student Orientation, welcoming new students onto campus through GAAP, participating on a Leadership Summit Committee, and raising money for cancer patients as an avid partaker in Georgetown's Relay for Life. I also work at the Office of Student Affairs as a Student Assistant. Just as I was able to find my niches at Georgetown, I guarantee you will have no trouble doing the same.

Three words describe how I feel about Georgetown- I LOVE IT. I love the campus, as well as the fact that Georgetown is located not just in any city, but in the capital of the United States. I love the restaurants, shows, shopping, and social scene I have access to. I love having professors that go out of their way to make sure I do well in their classes. I love that I can Trick-or-Treat on Embassy Row, hear guest speakers such as Bill Clinton and Arnold Schwarzenegger, visit the national monuments, and sing the Fight Song to the President in front of the White House after making it to the Final Four. I love that the weather is similar to New York, so I didn't have to adjust to a drastic climate change. And I do get see the cherry blossoms every year, which is a definite plus. Most of all, I love the people here. I love being able to smile at friendly faces each day knowing that I will always get a "Hi" in return. And I love being able to stand with my fellow Hoyas and proudly shout: "WE ARE GEORGETOWN."

I truly believe that, while you will make your own life for yourself at Georgetown, you will come to love the school as much as I have. Feel free to message me at any time, and I look forward to answering any questions you have about life on the Hilltop. I'm also available just to chat about the place I now call "home." Hoya Saxa!

SCHOOL: Georgetown School of Nursing and Health Studies

YEAR: 2011

MAJOR: International Health

MINOR: Social Justice (potential)

HOMETOWN: Manhasset, New York

HIGH SCHOOL: Manhasset High School

ACTIVITIES: Student Movement for Real Change and the AIDS Coalition

Hey guys! My name is Mary Alaina Jeffrey and I'm from Manhasset, New York. I graduated from Manhasset High School last year and am currently a freshman in the Georgetown School of Nursing and Health Studies. I am in International Health major, and considering some form of a Social Justice minor. I was always super involved in high school in various clubs and Georgetown has far surpassed the options of groups that high school could provide. No matter what your interests are, there's a group for you. I haven't officially joined many groups yet, but I am participating in Student Movement for Real Change and the AIDS Coalition. I'm also considering joining a program that tutors children from the DC area. The many organizations are a great way to meet new people that share similar interests that you do.

Georgetown really is an amazing place to be. The campus is beautiful, particularly buildings like Healy Hall and Copley Hall. The actual town of Georgetown and the surrounding DC area is also great; there are plenty of things to do off-campus, such as visiting historical sites, shopping, going to concerts, and many other things. There are lots of opportunities to see important speakers (I already went to see Barack Obama in my first month!) or go to various rallies and public events.

What I personally love most here is the sense of community and the people that I have met so far. I've never experienced such camaraderie between so many students as there is during school events, in particular the basketball season. People aren't afraid to be themselves and everyone is very passionate about what they do. I was able to make a smooth transition from home to here because of how comfortable I felt with the people and the support the school gives us. If you have any questions, or just want to chat, feel free to e-mail me. Hoya Saxa!

SCHOOL: School of Foreign Service (SFS)

YEAR: 2010

MAJOR: International Politics

MINORS:

HOMETOWN: Plandome, NY

HIGH SCHOOL: Chaminade High School

ACTIVITIES: Georgetown for Rudy, College Republicans, Judicial Hearing Board , Orientation Advisor for New Student Orientation, GAAP

Prospective Hoyas! My name is Joseph C. Gambino and I am a sophomore in the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. I can't believe it has already been two years since I graduated from Chaminade High School in Mineola, NY. In the SFS, I am an International Politics major with a concentration in Security Studies. Within my first week at Georgetown, I began to take advantage of everything Georgetown had to offer me as a community. Currently, I serve on the Board of the Georgetown for Rudy organization as well the College Republicans. I am extremely active in anything political because I hope to one day run for public office on the national level. I am also serving my first year on the Judicial Hearing Board as well as an Orientation Advisor for New Student Orientation (this is one of the best things you can possibly do on campus-helping to welcome the new students properly). And of course, I am the current State Chair of New York for GAAP, Georgetown's Admissions Ambassador Program. Without a doubt, everyone will find something that fits exactly with his/her interest.

There is no place to give four years of your life to than Georgetown. I was so sure that this was the place for me that I didn't even apply to another school! The campus sports a breathtaking view of the Potomac (which I can see from my dorm window) as well as magnificent architecture, both old and new (White Gravenor is definitely my favorite campus building). Aside from campus, the neighborhood is terrific. You will find everything you ever need within reach of a GUTS bus. M Street proudly boasts all different types of restaurants and shops and we even have a movie theater a couple of blocks away. And then of course there is the city…Washington, DC. It is the political capital of the world and is the best place to come for internships and future careers. We have numerous embassies from around the world all along Embassy Road (which is great during Halloween). But my favorite part about life at Georgetown is the Basketball Team. After a Final Four finish last season, we're definitely within reach of a national title this year with the big man, Roy Hibbert, leading the way! I definitely recommend that you all take a trip down here during the spring and come to one of the games and experience Hoya Paranoia for yourself! And you'll be surprised how many New Yorkers there are at Georgetown. I had seven on my floor alone in freshman year!

I hope you decide Georgetown is the place for you and look forwarding to answering any other questions you might have.
