My name is Michelle Carlsen and I am a junior in the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown. I have been involved in GAAP, the After School Kids Program, and the Georgetown Credit Union. I am originally from Mantorville, Minnesota which is in the Southeast corner of the state near Rochester. I chose to leave Minnesota and come to Georgetown because I wanted to challenge myself. Georgetown is not only an amazing school academically, but also socially. By coming to a larger city (my town has 1000 people) I was able to open up my opportunities for independence. One of my favorite aspects of Georgetown is that I am able to take advantage of what D.C. has to offer, but still be part of a smaller community. We have students from all over the world, from many different backgrounds, and with many different interests. This diversity creates an environment where everyone is able to get involved and flourish. Although deciding to leave my family and friends for Georgetown was one of the hardest decisions of my life, it has also turned out to be the most rewarding. If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me at mac233@georgetown.edu .
