Hey there future Hoyas! My name is Katie Kaplun and I am a senior in the Georgetown College, majoring in American Studies with a minor in Government. I am originally from Chevy Chase, MD, a suburb of DC adjacent to the city line, and I graduated from Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School in 2004. While growing up in Maryland might seem a little too close for comfort, it's actually the perfect situation to experience all the excitement of college life, but with home-cooked meals only a short distance away!

During my time at Georgetown, I've been able to explore a totally new side of DC as well as have experiences that have taken me much farther from home. Going to school at Georgetown is a great way to meet a ton of new people from all over the world, who are so talented and diverse that sometimes I think I learn just as much from my classmates as from my professors! Georgetown is also a great place to take advantage of all that DC has to offer, either by doing an internship on Capitol Hill, going to the Verizon Center to cheer on Hoya Basketball, getting discounted tickets to the Kennedy Center, or just going out to a club in Adams Morgan.

There is also so much to do on campus as well. At Georgetown I am personally involved in lots of different activities, including Blue and Gray (the tour guide society) and Baker Scholars (a program for liberal arts majors interested in business). Also, last semester I was able to study abroad at Georgetown's villa in Florence, Italy, which was by far one of my favorite experiences at GU.

Although I have lived near the District almost my entire life, Georgetown has helped me to really call this place my home in every sense of the word. I hope that you will also feel right at home on the Hilltop, and please e-mail me if you have any questions. Hoya Saxa!

Hey Prospective Hoya!

My name is Kat Sperle, and I'm a senior premed biology major in Georgetown College from Bethesda, MD (and I love it here!). You may wonder what it's like to go to college so close to home, and I can tell you from personal experience that nothing beats being in DC. College is going to be a new experience, and there are so many advantages: shows, museum exhibits, sports games, awesome job opportunities, famous guest speakers, delicious restaurants- don't worry…I'll stop myself before I go on and on. Basically, I'm having a fantastic time at college and being local has given me the bonus of never having to buy a plane ticket.

What I love most about Georgetown is the sense of community. I have enjoyed getting to know people through several great activities (especially GERMS, Georgetown's student-run emergency rescue squad). It may sound clichéd to say that the students here are the nicest I have ever met, but it's true.

In terms of academics, my classes are interesting, and I have a great faculty mentor. I've been conducting breast cancer research here since freshmen year.
Please shoot me an email with any questions you have about life on the Hilltop.
