Hello! My name is Beth Goldstein and I'm currently a junior in the College, double majoring in Linguistics and Spanish.  I'm from Stoughton, MA, attended Stoughton High School, and was happy to find so many Sox fans here at Georgetown!  My decision to come to Georgetown wasn't based on many of the typical factors: I'm not all about politics, I didn't go to a Catholic high school, and I didn't know anyone who had ever attended GU.  However, when I visited for my own GAAP weekend, I was completely lured in by the amazing opportunities Washington has to offer, as well as the social, friendly feel of the campus.  I was tentative at first—I am not Catholic and felt that I might be uncomfortable in that setting—however, the Jesuit identity of Georgetown was perhaps one of my favorite aspects of my freshman year.  Even the theology requirement allowed me to see that students at Georgetown, whether Catholic or not, have an interest in learn

ing and teaching others.

One of the most unique things about Georgetown is most definitely its location.  It is hard to think of another school with such a beautiful campus that still affords the students the ability to venture into the city.  Georgetown students enjoy the best of both worlds—we can take advantage of one of the most vibrant cities in America and then retreat back to the comfort of an enclosed campus.  The political scene at Georgetown is also unbeatable - last year I heard Hillary Clinton and President of Ukraine, Viktor Yushchenko, speak right here on campus.  Hardly a day passes without an email informing us of the "important" people coming to speak at Georgetown.

These are just some of the wonderful opportunities Georgetown has to offer - feel free to email me with any questions, I'd be glad to help out a future Hoya!

HIGH SCHOOL: Boston Area Club, Pre-Law Society, Breast Cancer Outreach, GAAP

Hello future Hoyas! My name is Allison Simeone. I am currently a junior in the College, double-majoring in Political Economy and Sociology. I graduated from Weston High School in Weston, MA in 2004. At Georgetown, in addition to being a GAAP State Chair, I am on the Board of the Boston Area Club, a member of the Pre-Law Society, and a member of the Breast Cancer Outreach program. I also plan to study abroad in Italy this spring.

As a high school senior I had no idea what I wanted to study in college. I think this is an important message for any prospective student because by studying at Georgetown and working with the Georgetown administration you will discover your true interests and passions. Due to the school’s liberal arts core requirements, I have taken classes in a variety of disciplines and have discovered which ones work best for me. Outside of class, I have a variety of interests, each of which has been met through the extensive selection of student clubs and organizations available on the Hilltop. One of my strongest interests is, of course, my love for Boston, and especially its sports teams. At Georgetown you will meet a lot of fans and find an endless number of events that support our great state, including fun trips to Camden Yards.

Georgetown is also part of an amazing city.  Its own bubble provides a safe and beautiful campus and the neighborhood is full of great places to eat, shop and hang out. In addition, Downtown is just a short Metro ride away -- think T, but nicer -- and is an amazing place to explore with a constant stream of events. And if you ever need a little break and you’re craving some bad drivers, some citizens lacking the ability to say “r”, a little trip to the Cape or better yet if, I mean when, we make it to the playoffs or another series, Logan is only an hour away. If you have any questions about academics, extracurricular activities, social-life or anything at all feel free to contact me anytime. Hoya Saxa!

HOMETOWN: Bridgewater, MA

HIGH SCHOOL: St. Sebastian's School

Hi all! My name is John Madore, and I am from Bridgewater, Massachusetts. I graduated from St. Sebastian's School in 2007, a small, independent Catholic school where I was captain of the soccer team and active in many other activities. At Georgetown, however, I have been able to pursue a wide variety of other interests besides soccer, while still staying active at Yates and meeting incredible people from all over the world! I am currently a freshman at the Georgetown College, and am a declared major in Biology. I also am following the pre-medicine curriculum. On campus, I am a member of the College Democrats, the Pre-Med society, volunteer at the GU Hospital, and have a job working the front desk at the Jesuit Residence. I also am in the Howard Hughes Research Scholarship Program, and am so excited to be spending the next three summers at Georgetown performing undergraduate research!

After attending Catholic school for 12 years, I told my parents I never wanted to attend Catholic school again! However, my mind was completely changed after I was accepted to Georgetown and visited for a GAAP accepted students weekend. Everyone who I met was so open and friendly, and my friends at Georgetown are brilliant, but completely down to earth and real people. Not everyone is from Massachusetts at all, and I like it this way, as I'm able to learn so much about how to interact and form strong bonds with people from all over the country and world. There are still Pats and Sox fans though, and I proudly wear my gear around campus! Professors here are inspiring, and take the time to get to know each student. This is absolutely an undergraduate focused university. The campus is beautiful, and I can't speak enough to having the entire city of Washington DC literally right outside our gates!! It holds so many incredible opportunities.

If you have any questions at all about going to school away from Boston, being pre-med, or anything to do with Georgetown or my experience so far, please email me! I would love to answer your questions and to help you make the decision that I made six months ago to attend Georgetown! Hoya Saxa!
