Greetings to the great state of Indiana! My name's Ohm Gore and I am a freshman here at Georgetown University. While I'm currently undeclared in college, I'll probably be majoring in government (Georgetown's name for a political science degree). I graduated from West Lafayette High School in West Lafayette, known for being the home of Purdue University, in 2007.

In high school, I always tried to be a member of a bunch of different clubs, and Georgetown has given me the chance to do that again. Currently, I'm a part of the Philodemic Debate Society (similar to Student Congress, for any high school debaters out there); a news writer for the Georgetown Voice newspaper; a student fellow of the Tocqueville Forum, which sponsors lectures on political philosophy; an editor of the yearbook; a member of the Community Council, which sets up and sponsors different events on campus; a coordinator of SMURF, a program that promotes responsible drinking on campus (and creates a periodical poster, the Stall Seat Journal, that's put up in bathrooms for people to read); and a member of the Justice and Diversity in Action Living-Learning Community, a group of community-service-oriented people who live on the same floor. (Whew, that was a lot!) While I'm part of many things here at Georgetown, there's dozens of other clubs here; chances are there's a club for whatever interest you have. Even if you're the first person to think of a club idea, don't be discouraged. At Georgetown, it's easy to start your own club and get University funding to help you out.

When you're looking at colleges, you should really consider Georgetown. Not only do we have an amazing campus and neighborhood, we're in Washington, D.C., meaning you can spend your free time at a great restaurant, one of the Smithsonian museums, or even in Congress or the Supreme Court listening to deliberations. Even if you don't feel like going out much, trust me, Georgetown will bring a lot of speakers to you. In the last couple of years, we've had people like Bill Richardson, Bill Clinton, and Antonin Scalia on campus to speak exclusively to students. Personally, I like going to nearby M Street to window shop and grab a big dish of ice cream at the Häagen-Dazs store, as well as seeing musicals at the Kennedy Center. Georgetown may sound like it's big, what with all the things you can do both on and off-campus, but it's really a close-knit, accepting, diverse community. Trust me, I was uneasy about leaving behind all of my friends when I went to college, but since coming here, I've made friends with people from all fifty states and many different countries like Singapore, the United Kingdom, and the Dominican Republic.

Feel free to e-mail me with any questions you have about the University, and I'll try to respond as soon as I can. Even if you don't have questions, e-mail me anyway; it's always nice to hear from people in my home state. Hoya Saxa!
