Hey all! My name is Ashley Watkins and I am a senior in the College. I am from Twin Falls, but love living in the city. When I was applying for schools, I first started looking at Georgetown University because it was a great school. But since I've been here, I've discovered that it has so much more than just outstanding academics. One of my favorite aspects of going to college here is the city. Washington D.C. is such an amazing place to live. In addition to all of the monuments and museums, I have gotten to attend plays, symphonies, operas, comedy shows, and concerts and the school funded my attendance at a good majority of these. Obviously, this is the center of political action in our country; so if you are interested in anything like that, definitely give Georgetown a good look. I interned with Senator Crapo's office my sophomore year and had a blast working on the Hill. But as our nation's capital, anything you are interested in can be found here. I was a little worried that I might miss the Idaho outdoors while here, but they have an Outdoor Adventures Club that does everything from hiking to kayaking to overnight campouts. This last spring, I studied in Dublin, Ireland. As one of numerous study abroad sites run by the University, Georgetown is a really conducive atmosphere to learning about and immersing yourself in other cultures. While all of this is amazing, what I really love about this school is the academic atmosphere. All of my professors are outstanding in their fields and challenge me to fulfill my potential. Like most major Universities, the students at Georgetown work really hard, but here they also like to have fun. I think that this is such an important balance for a good college experience. If you are looking to get out of Idaho, see the world, and be surrounded by exciting and interesting people, then Georgetown University is the place for you. I would love to answer any questions you have about GU or just chat about whatever you want, so e-mail me at alw55@georgetown.edu. Good luck with your college applications, hope to see you here in the fall!
