Hello! My name is Sheila Grant and I'm a junior at Georgetown. I graduated from Ursuline Academy and I have lived in Wilmington all my life. I should first confess that I wasn't one of those "I can't wait to get out of Delaware" high school seniors. I LOVED high school and I'm obsessed with my family at home, and it was only reluctantly that I packed our minivan and made the 2 hour trek south to G-town last August. But, now that I'm here, I would describe my overall feeling about Georgetown as euphoric. The best part about this place is that everything they say on the tour and in the guidebooks is true. My classes are awesome—I'm an American Studies major, which is a mix of history, government, sociology, literature, and film. Classes are pretty small and the professors really care about you as an individual. "It's good being first!!" |

Hey! My name is Amanda McCollom and I am a freshman in the College. I am from Wilmington, DE and I graduated from Archmere Academy. Currently I am undecided but I am thinking about majoring in American Studies or English. For me, Georgetown is my ideal school because it is in a great location but it still has a campus and community feel. After living in Delaware my whole life, I definitely wanted to get out and experience the excitement of a big city but I didn't want to loose the familiarity and closeness I felt in Delaware, where I could usually count on seeing someone I know at the movies or mall. Georgetown is a really great size because it's big enough that you will always be meeting people but you are still very likely to see a familiar face walking around campus. So far I've been having a lot of fun here. The Georgetown area is gorgeous and has so many cool restaurants and shops. It's nice to take a break and walk around M street. Also with D.C. only a metro ride away, it's so easy to take advantage of the numerous opportunities. So far I've seen Barack Obama speak, gone to a Rilo Kiley concert and toured the monuments and museums. On campus, I've gotten involved with the Georgetown University Breast Cancer Outreach Group and the Georgetown Chapter of Blanket New Orleans. I also plan on writing for the student newspaper, The Hoya. One of the things I like most about Georgetown is the diversity of everyone's location. I went to school with the same kids my whole life and I've never known many people outside of Delaware but already I have good friends from Miami, Louisiana, Tennessee and California. It is still nice to be only two hours away from home though because it took me leaving the state to realize that I have a lot of Delaware pride. I love telling people, most of whom know nothing about our state, all about Delaware and how awesome it is to be the first state. We definitely need more Delawareans here! I hope to hear from you soon as I try to answer any question you might have, do not hesitate to email me even if you just want to chat. Good luck and Hoya Saxa!
