Hello from Washington, DC! My name is Pierce Nixon and I'm a junior in the College of Arts and Sciences studying Government and Classics. I grew up in Little Rock and graduated from Catholic High School in 2004. Even though I'd grown up the biggest city in Arkansas, I thought that moving to the East Coast would be rough. As it turns out, the neighborhood Georgetown feels a lot like a small town by a river—which is a lot like Little Rock. That said, Georgetown is at the heart of a very global city. You'll have access to internships with powerful financial institutions, members of congress, think-tanks and news media from around the world. From time to time, you'll want to take a break from being part of a famous research institution and working for world leaders. When that time comes, and it will, you'll be able to take part in the culture of Washington—DC.'s best-kept secret. Everything from award-winning theater to world-renowned museums is just minutes away. Dine side-by-side with world leaders at restaurants in the neighborhood, or go see one of Washington's professional sports teams. Despite my anxiety about moving to a big city, I've had an amazing time at Georgetown—and I'm just getting started! Let me know if you have any questions by e-mailing me. It's always nice to talk to someone from back home, and I'm looking forward to hearing from you. Hoya Saxa! |
